Farewell Messages to Say Goodbye

A farewell is not just about saying goodbye to your loved ones. Rather, it is about encouraging and giving your best wishes to someone on his/her new journey. We bring to you the best and unique farewell messages that you can share with your family, friends and colleagues.

I will always remember the good times we spend together.
Those precious moments were the best times of my life.
Farewell my friend;
hope to see you soon.

This is such an great opportunity for you, but I still can’t believe you’re leaving. Please keep in touch!

I’ll miss you and think of you. Thank you for the good times and sweet memories that we shared together.

I hate the feeling when you have to say goodbye to someone you want to spend every minute with.

Though miles may lie between us, we are never far apart,
for friendship doesn't count miles, it's measured by the heart.

Saying goodbye is the most painful way of solving a problem.

May your journey be a pleasant one. Farewell and hope to see you soon.

Goodbye my friend
I hope our path will cross again.

Today as we part I am forced to say goodbye. But, I know, that we would meet again very soon.

You are not only a great teacher but also a great human being. There are so many things that we have learned from you! you deserve the best farewell!

Goodbye without reasons is the most painful one.
Love without reason is the most beautiful one.

Saying goodbye to a true friend is really tough.
But I bid you goodbye with the hope that we would meet again one day.

Your decision-making skills are an asset that have always inspired me to be like you.
I appreciate all your words of encouragement and everything I have learned from you.
Farewell, sir!

You’ve been an inspiration to all of us, and we've enjoyed working with you.
We wish you success wherever you go.
Farewell, boss!

Good friends never say goodbye
They simply say "See you soon"

Goodbyes are never easy
Pictures never carry your warmth
memories will always pierce the heart
No words can say it all.
I'll Miss you.

Just a note to say..
As you move into a new venture...
May luck and success always be with you!

You decided to move to greener pastures, but your departure will leave our grounds barren and dry.
Farewell

Monthly targets and performance appraisals will come and go,
but the memories of working with a colleague like you will stay in my heart forever.

Because we are in the office
I may not let tears out of my eyes
But I want you to know that
My heart will silently weep and cry.
Farewell & Goodbye

It's difficult to bid you farewell
As you leave though my mind says you have a brighter future in store & a better life ahead...
the heart can never outgrow,
the pleasant experience of having you near,
Wherever you may go, here's wishing you all the best.

Fell very lucky to know someone who is so hard for me to say goodbye.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Others stay awhile, make footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same.

It may be hard to say goodbye but the good with it is a promise of something better.

Wishing you much joy & happiness as you begin a new chapter in your life.

You were the best colleague that I have ever worked with.
I wish you all the best for your future.
Farewell!

It's time to move on and scale new heights.
But we wish that you don't forget the old friends who have loved you always.

Goodbye is only truly painful if you know
you will never say hello again...

Keep us informed about your welfare!
Farewell, my friend we'll miss you!!

Go ahead, enjoy your new job.
We are friends forever!!

The troubles of miles of commute was undone by your one smile.
Do well!

In the journey of life you meet several people who are hard to forget.
I am glad to have met a person like you.
Hope the path ahead is smooth for you and may you reach your goal without fuss.
Farewell my dear.

Thanks for all those times when you helped me in the tasks I wasn't able to do on time.
It will be difficult to fill the void created by your absence.
I am really going to miss you.
Best of luck!

Not always do you find a friend in a colleague.
But here I was lucky.
Hope we retain this friendship even after you have moved on.
Saying good bye with the hope to meet you soon.

This goodbye might be painful
but it is not the end.
My heart knows, that we will meet again...

Morning classes, bunking college, midnight studies, late night drives, we have seen a wonderful time together.
But now it's time to part. But its not the final goodbye, see you soon

The tiring office hours seemed much more relaxed when you were around.
You will be missed with each passing day.
All the best for your future endeavors.

Today our team is going to lose its sense of humor and its heart beat.
Farewell to the guy who made every day so lively with his jokes and enthusiasm.

I know that you are going to get an awesome salary in your new job but there is no guarantee that you will get awesome colleagues like us too.
Farewell.

You were an asset for the entire department.
We will surely miss you.
Wishing you a great future!

Wish you a smooth sailing ahead and a path full of joy.
May all your dreams come true!

Though we are are sad that you are leaving the company, but we wish that you may have a great future ahead.
Wishing you lots of success.

It has been an enriching experience to work with someone like you.
You will remain my best colleague ever.

Since you are bidding farewell to us,
please know that your legacy would forever remain remain deep in our hearts.
Thank you for being a great leader, friend and a supervisor.

Thank you for all the loving memories, wishes and support.
Those are the possession of my life.

The way I see it, A GOODBYE just means that A HELLO will be coming soon.
I hope to meet you again someday.

Saying goodbye is the hardest part of a relationship but sometimes it is the best thing that can happen.

You have always let your Work speak for you. Let your honesty answer all criticism.
We know you are leaving a very proud man!

You have been kind & generous and wise & witty.
We will miss you!

I had come to rely on your "random wisdom".
Would miss that terribly.
Do well!

Parting has a bitter sweetness.
Bitter for the present separation and sweet for the future longing.
Hope this farewell is for a short period.

As you embark upon a new path, let us wish you many moments of happiness success and achievements.
May you live your dreams in each moment.

Remember me with a smile that warms a heart.
Remember me for the miles we walked together and got lost to find new paths.
Always remember me for the good!

Goodbyes are never easy...
pictures never carry your warmth..
memories will always pierce the heart...
no words can say it all
I will miss you

I would envy you for your new job, but right now I am just shocked and sad to know that you are leaving.
Farewell to the colleague to made team meetings meaningful and lunch breaks awesome.

The coffee breaks, the canteen chats, office gossips and long hours schedule,
I will miss you in all. Hope the path ahead for you is smooth.
Good bye and take care.

As you choose a new path to walk, may you discover new treasures of life to unlock.
Wait a while and count my wishes, I am sending you lots of good bye kisses.

The truest feelings for someone are known when you are bidding adieu to them.

Now and always I will love you, but it's time that we part and say goodbye.

Even when you are saying goodbye make a promise to say hello again.

Gone with the wind yet so close to my heart.
Maybe we have bid goodbye but it is only a new start.

Sometimes you realize how important people are in your life when you bid goodbye to them.

Parting at the end of a journey isn't the most important part.
It's the journey that fills the hearts.

If you dare to say goodbye
life will always give you a new hello.

It is sometimes difficult to let go of but it is a wonderful feeling to know you are leaving us for a better future.
May you excel in every field of your life.

I will always cherish the happy times I have spent with you.
Whenever I need to smile I know I can look back to them.
Hoping to see you soon. Good Bye!

My good bye should not make you sad as you are going to pursue something better.
Hope God bestows you with success as you take a new path.

We wish you lots of success on your way.
Sadly, we will not go this way together.

When everything is said and done it is best to bid farewell to each other.

Your tear-stained face is the most painful memory of the time we parted.

As it is your last day with us, we'd like to thank you for being a great manager, mentor and guide.
May you shine always.

Wishing you all the success for your upcoming future.
Good bye and good luck.

May this goodbye only be momentary.
Hope to meet you again. May the coming days make you a better person personally and professionally.

Your resignation is the biggest loss that our company has suffered this fiscal.
We all bid farewell to the employee who was a profit-driving machine.

A goodbye is most painful when you can't explain it in words...

You didn't let any of your team members fall behind. Cheers!

One of the most difficult words to say is 'goodbye'.

You were an asset and we were all set with you :) Enjoy!

I know you can only do wondrous things and make friends at workplace.
Will miss you.

I want to hunt down the head hunter who hunted you and tell him that he has managed the best ever hunt.
Farewell.

It will be difficult to find a friend like you.
But let not that hold me from wishing you all the success for the future.

Though it's the time to part I want you to know that you have always been special to me for all the great moments we have shared together.

You will be leaving us but your teachings, morals, ethics and advice will always stay with us. Thanks for being such an inspirational co-worker.

You are leaving behind a legacy that will show young ones the right path to take in the future.

Hope this farewell gives us another opportunity to meet in the future.

The thought of you going away makes me think about all the times when I could have said how much I love you, but I didn't

We wish this farewell is temporary and takes you a step closer to a new beginning

Be in touch. Your touch is spiritual.

Dear friends, we studied together all these years and shared our feelings and emotions in this institution.
Today, we move on to different parts of the world.
Though, physically we depart, we are there in each others heart.
Thank you friends..

10 amazing goodbye email templates your colleagues will love

Calum Grewar · 08 Aug

It’s your last day at work. You know you should send a goodbye email to your coworkers, but condensing your time at the company into a few wise words feels insurmountable. Here’s a batch of readymade templates to help you boss the work farewell email

How to Von Trapp your way out of the office

Keep it concise

Less is more when it comes to the adieu email.

During your coworkers’ busy working days, hearing you rambling on about your time at the company, and future away from it, might breed frustration. Be efficient in your nostalgia and quick in your praise.

Keep negatives to yourself or confined to quadruple-encrypted emails to the relevant personnel – don’t burn bridges.

Imagine the drama if the Von Trapps left the room by detailing their deep-rooted resentment for those present. Not only would they have nowhere to live, but it would make life harder for everyone in the family. Instead, they maintain their glowing reputation, and that of Maria’s, by singsonging their way to bed like good little evacuees.

While you may feel like venting, any criticism whatsoever should be given constructively, gently, and privately. People’s entire careers may hinge on whether they create a mutually positive working environment.

Maybe it’s just better to stay in the never-to-be-sent draft section, next to the one addressed to Brian Cox with the subject “So, is the earth flat?”.

Remember the details

This means leaving drinks (if you are having them and if the recipient is invited), contact details you’re happy to share, and anything else they might have questions about – your plans for the future, for example.

Tailor your farewell

If you’re part of a small team within a larger organisation, don’t send a long email to the entire company. This could come across as big headed. Diane from accounts doesn’t need to know that you, Steve from customer service, are leaving after six months of ‘dedicated’ service.

As you’ll see, it’s important to differentiate between ranks and relationships. Also, your tone should differ depending on your organisation. Tales of hotel hopping and Vegas gambling might be more appropriate for investment banking analysts than executives of international aid schemes. So whether your vibe is wild or mild, here are some templates that you can add your own spice to.

Disclaimer: Please, oh please, remember to replace all things in [square brackets].

Template one: Farewell email to peers and coworkers

This should be the easiest as it’s neither too emotional or sentimental. Remember to show your intention of keeping them in your network.

Hi [Their name],

As you may know, I’m leaving [Company X].

I want to make clear my gratitude for being able to get to know you both professionally and personally over the past [X years/months]. Without your friendship, support and collaboration, my time here would not have been the same. I’m sure I’ll see you before I leave, but if not, my last day is [Date X] [include plans such as leaving drinks].

My broad plan for the future is [Plan X]. I’m excited to get started but will also cherish all our achievements together, like [Achievement X]. If you don’t already have my contact details, here are the essentials:

[Phone X, email X, LinkedIn X]

I look forward to keeping in contact and hearing your updates about work, life, whatever! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch should you need anything or want to catch up.

Wishing you all the best for the future,

[Your name]

Template two: Farewell email to your team manager(s) with whom you've worked closely

This is a tricky one as you’ll have probably shared a lot of experiences with these people and might know them on a personal level.

However, they are still your superior and can provide vital character references and connections in years to come, so your parting note should remind them of your professional prowess rather than your close-and-personal pal-ness.

This message can be complicated further depending on the terms on which you left. It’s best to be sensitive to the individual and the situation to ensure that the appropriate balance is met.

Hello [Their name],

As you know, I am regretfully leaving [Company X] on [date X].

I wanted to personally thank you for both your support and mentorship over the past [years/months X].

I’ve grown as a professional thanks to your tutelage, for which I’m very grateful. I’ve also appreciated knowing you on a personal level, and very much hope we can continue this relationship beyond my final day.

Below are my relevant contact details and I hope you will get in touch at some point in the future.

My plans are X and you should know that you’ve played a role in getting me there. So once again, thank you.

Good luck in the future,

[Your name]

Template three: Farewell email to your team or those you supervise

As with the email to your team manager, this will vary depending on your relationship with the person. You'll know if most of your interactions were informal, or if you should sign off with a pleasant yet professional farewell. Here's a good example you could use to achieve a bit of both.

Greetings [Their name],

As I‘m sure you already know, I’m moving on from [Company X].

Our final day together will be on [date X] and I look forward to parting on an especially high note. It’s been a pleasure managing you and the team as a whole, and I sincerely wish you luck in your future with [Company X].

My contact details are as follows and I hope you’ll stay in touch in the future as I’d love to hear how everyone is getting on. I am also keen to hear how you continue to develop professionally.

[Email, LinkedIn]

All the best and thanks again,

[Your name]

Template four: Farewell email to clients

This is important for all parties involved – the client, yourself, and the company. It should go without saying that you don’t drive away clients that you worked hard to secure for your company in the first place.

Greetings [Client name],

I’m writing to you today because I’m leaving my position of [job title] at [Company X] after [X years/months]. My final working day will be on [Date X].

I wanted to email you personally to let you know how much I’ve enjoyed working together and getting to know you. Clients such as yourself were one of the best parts of the job, and I’m sure my successor will continue the positive working relationship.

Until they make contact, let me know if there is anything I can do to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible. I’m happy to help in any way.

Wishing you well for the future,

[Your Name X]

Template five: Farewell email to distant colleagues

Remember, don’t burn bridges. You never know who you might hurt or who may come in useful.

Hello [Thier name],

As you may have heard, I’ll no longer be [job title X] here at [Company X]. I’m moving on to [Plan X]. I’m excited, but unsurprisingly sad to leave my colleagues behind.

I wish you all the luck for your future here and please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Here are my details: [email X, LinkedIn X]

Thanks for everything,

[Your Name X]

Template six: Farewell email to people you don't really know

This one's important as you always forget putting one or two people on your list. These people may be awful bores, or sweethearts who pass under the radar. So it’s important to be kind and professional while remaining unspecific.

Good day [Their name],

You might have heard that I’ll be leaving my position in [Company X] as [Job Title X] on [Date X]. I hope my successor will enjoy their time here as much as I have, and I wish you all the best for your future.

I am moving on to [Plan X], and I’d like to offer my email and LinkedIn should you wish to get in touch in the future.

[Email X, LinkedInX]

Thanks for everything,

[Your name]

Template seven: Farewell email to close friends

This one will either be the hardest or the easiest. If you just don’t know what to say to those who mean the most to you, because you’ve said it in person or because there's simply too much to say, here is the template for you.

Hi [Their name],

The day is nearly upon us. Our formidable partnership is coming to an end (in the office at least). I’d like to thank you for everything you’ve done for me here, you’ve made this job so enjoyable.

I’ll always remember [FunnyStory X]. So hopefully whoever replaces me will be rubbish *cough*… I mean… just as productive and efficient as I ever was. Please tell me how they are, and how you are, and how everyone is.

Here are my details, please stay in touch.

[Telephone X, email X, LinkedIn X]

I’ll see you on my last day [date X] if not before, and I’d love to see you at my leaving do.

All the best,

[Your name]

Template eight: Farewell email to c-level employees

If you have worked directly with high up professionals, it’s polite and potentially useful to thank them and inform them of your leaving. This must be done professionally and concisely as they likely have no time to spare between meeting the Queen and shaking hands with the Pope.

Good day [highly positioned name],

As you may already know, I am regrettably leaving my role at [CompanyX] as [JobTitle X]. Working for [Company X] has been an excellent opportunity both professionally and personally, and I want to thank you for your involvement in this.

I am planning to [X] and aim to bring forward all the skills that I have learned and used here. I’ll remember this company fondly, and all past collaborations I’ve had with you.

Thanks once more,

[Your name]

Template nine: Farewell email to the security guard, cleaner or receptionist who made your day

Not everyone who enriches your life will receive the thanks they deserve, so make sure to acknowledge the doorman who’d give you a wink and a nod as you left each day.

Hello [Their name],

I’m emailing you to tell you that I’m leaving [CompanyX] as [job title X] on [date X].

I wanted to personally thank you for brightening my time here. Our smiles and interactions always enriched my day and contributed to making my time here all the better.

I hope that our paths will cross again, and here is my email in case you want to get in touch: [email X].

I wish you all the best for the future,

[Your name]

Sample Goodbye Emails to Colleagues

short farewell email to colleagues

When leaving a job, you may want to write your coworkers, boss, or employees a farewell message. You may also want to say thank you in your message.

Writing a pleasant goodbye note may encourage others to remember you fondly. Saying goodbye is #8 on the list of 15 things to do before leaving a job.

At the office, the farewell message is usually sent via email when sending the same message to a group of people such as a team or others that you had contact with. When saying goodbye to one person, such as your boss, mentor, or close coworker, you may want to write a handwritten note instead of sending an email. Handwritten notes may feel more personal, and the person is likely to keep it longer than an email.

You don't have to thank or say goodbye to everyone on the list below with a farewell message. Wanting to thank someone on that list, may be what brought you to this post. So I listed others that you may want to write a message to that you may not have considered otherwise.

Who you may want to send a farewell note to

  • Your team (could use a group email)
  • Your co-workers that were not on your team (could use a group email)
  • Your boss (individual note is best unless you don't have anything special to say to the boss. And then you can include your boss in the group email)
  • Your employees (individual if you have specific things to say to one person, use group for your entire team)
  • Anyone else you had contact with that you feel like saying goodbye to or thanking before your last day

If you know of someone else that is leaving, you may want to send them a message. If they send you a farewell email, you could reply and write them a farewell message

What to include in your farewell thank you message

Below are some suggestions for what types of things to include in your farewell note. They are followed by sections of examples notes written to a boss, employee, and coworkers.

  • Your last day date, in case anyone wants to say good-bye to you in person (if you work at the same location) or reply to your message.
  • Where and what your next job is. People always wonder! But that's entirely up to you. Don't share about your next job if you are not comfortable doing so.
  • If sending an email, the subject line could be:
    • Farewell and best wishes
    • My last day is [Date]
    • Goodbye and contact info
    • Thank you
  • Message content which could include:
    • I look forward to our paths crossing again in the future.
    • I enjoyed working with you.
    • Please stay in touch.
    • It's been an honor working with you.
    • Compliments of the team or to an individual
    • There are more examples in the notes below
  • The thank you message
    • Usually, I recommend being specific when thanking someone. However, that is nearly impossible to do in a group email. So, your farewell note might feel generic, which is okay in this situation.
    • Thank you for all of your help and support
    • Thank you for being great to work with
    • I am grateful to have worked with such a wonderful group of people
    • I appreciate the time you spent mentoring me and helping me to grow my skills
  • Contact information, if you want to stay in contact with people! Maybe you don't. Only provide contact information if you are genuinely okay with someone contacting you in the future. If you don't want a bunch of Facebook friend invites from acquaintances, don't include your Facebook info.

      • Social media accounts like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
      • Email address
      • Phone number
      • A link to your website/blog if you have one.

Farewell Message Format

Your note can look like the example that follows. For more information on the layout of a thank-you note, see these 5 easy steps.

Dear [Person's Name],

Your Message (this is the middle section).

Second paragraph (optional).

Third paragraph (optional).

Closing (such as kind regards, thanks again, etc.),

Your Name

Note: words in [brackets] in the examples below, should be replaced appropriately for your note.

The format of the farewell examples messages will be the same, so only the middle section of the note is included in the examples below when the note has only 1 paragraph. You can add additional paragraphs to any of the samples if you desire. You can also combine wording from different examples into your note.

Examples to be sent via group email to multiple people

Note: This section of examples is for when you are sending one email to multiple people. Since its being sent to a group, you will not be thanking anyone for anything specific. Some of the examples will feel generic and simple. These emails are more casual and could be for a boss sending an email to employees or coworkers to coworkers.

And if they know you all too well:

Subject: You Won't See The Last Of Me!

Dear all,

I am leaving today to herd goats in Cyprus for my wealthy great-aunt. I wish to thank you for your support over the past X years. It was rewarding to achieve some of the targets with you, and to have known some of you personally (remember, what happens in the art department, stays in the art department).

I am now looking forward to the new challenges of close-quarter surveillance of the Billie-Gruff family, while moonlighting as a consultant in [industry/company].

If you are thinking of getting into the booming goat-herding industry (sorry [name of boss] to poach,) or wish to keep in touch, my contact details are [email/phone number].

I wish you all the best in your future.

Warmest regards,

Jane Whatshername

My final day is today.  Thank you for your company in my time here,  I have learnt a lot from the job and yourselves, and any credit I've been given is also due to the support and help I have received from you.
