This is a letter that can be used before referring an insurer to the Financial Services Ombudsman following an insurer's rejection of or delay in dealing with a claim when items of the policyholder's property has sustained damage or been lost.

The document provides a simple template that enables a person to set out the key facts that are required to request that the insurer's present a reasonable settlement proposal before the policy holder refers them to the financial ombudsman.

 

How to use this document

Once you have completed this document simply post it to the insurers, and wait for them to write to you. If you do not hear from them within 14 days you may wish to consider further action with the financial ombudsman.

The letter should be sent as soon as possible after the rejection but in any event, before you refer the insurer to the financial services ombudsman.

In order to prove that the letter was sent, you may wish to send it by recorded delivery, or keep a receipt or other proof of posting.

 

Applicable Law

The relationship is subject to the principles of contract and insurance law.

The Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 may also apply to the insurer's decision.

Purpose of Claim letter

Claim letter is written to inform the insurance company about the incident explaining how it happened and also providing details about the situation. The claim letter is used for claiming that how a person is eligible for claim. 

How to Write Claim letter 

While writing the claim letter ensure that it should be successful in producing the intended result. All data should be clearly mentioned such as policy number, date and the policy amount. Finally the claim amount should be mentioned. The letter should be written in a polite way.

Some common use of claim letter 

Commonly, Claim letter is required at the time the claim is claimed from the insurance company whether it could be a car, auto, fire, medical or the life insurance, when a loved one passes away and if you are the beneficiary to their life and you need to receive the money, claim letter is the first requirement which is applicable for the payment settlement. The claim letter is also required at the time of claim denial. When the claim is denied give the reasons why the claim should be denied or rejected in a polite way.
