Saying “thank you” at the end of an email matters to people. It's not a good look , but it happens: for busy, highly caffeinated workers in I'll work these puns you suggested into my presentation on otters, and thanks again for your kelp. alive person who probably had things to do before this email arrived.

Some daily situations – at work and in our personal lives – require more formal language. And this is often true in writing.

For example, if you’re expressing thankfulness or gratitude in a speech at a wedding, a formal reception or networking event, or in a lecture, it would be appropriate to choose more formal language.

Or if you’re writing thank you notes to friends and family members; if you’re sending an email to say thank you to a new client; or writing to another company, again, you’ll want to use these more formal expressions.

I’m so grateful for… / I’m so thankful for… / Many thanks for…

Writing some thank you notes to friends who helped you after the birth of a baby or while you were helping a sick parent?

  • “I’m so grateful for your help. It was a challenging time but you made it easier. Thank you.”
  • “I’m so thankful friends like you.”

I truly appreciate… / Thank you ever so much for… / It’s so kind of you to…

Are you sending an email to everyone on your team at work for working overtime or volunteering to work on a Saturday?

  • “I truly appreciate everyone’s efforts and commitments to our success. Thank you for taking time out of your personal time to meet our deadline.”
  • “It was kind of each of you – and your families – to give up a Saturday to help our company volunteer at the 10km race to benefit cancer research.”

Thank you for going through the trouble to… / Thank you for taking the time to…

Did one of your business contacts take some extra time to give you some information you needed? Send an email to say thank you…

  • “Hi, Samantha. I just wanted to send a note to say thank you for taking the trouble to answer all my questions. I know you are busy and I appreciate that you took the time to respond quickly. Thank you.”

I’m eternally grateful for… / I cannot thank you enough for… / I want you to know how much I value… / Words cannot describe how grateful I am for… / Please accept my deepest thanks for…

Sometimes we have very difficult times in our lives. Maybe a loved one becomes ill. Someone passes away. Or perhaps you lose a job.

Tragedies happen. These can be terribly stressful times. If you are writing someone to thank them to help you, these expressions are most appropriate.

  • “I’m eternally grateful to you for providing dinners to my family while I was in the hospital. I felt comforted knowing they were well-feed.”
  • “Words cannot express how grateful I am for your help after my mom passed away. I was devastated and you helped me get through each day. ”

Thank Someone For a Job Well Done

thank you for doing a good job

Saying thank you is a simple and often overlooked way to show someone how much they mean to you. The gesture is made even more special when you’ve taken the time to include a small gift and handwrite a nice message in order to express your gratitude.

We’ve shared some of our favorite ways to say thank you that are sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.

To say thank you for a thoughtful gift

Did you just have a birthday, wedding or baby shower and want to thank your party guests for showering you with gifts? A thoughtful note is a great way to share your gratitude. Make the sentiment really special by telling them specifically how they’ve brightened your day. Don’t be afraid to have some fun or admit how excited you are to use their gift!

Start your letter with one of these sentiments:

  • I just wanted to write to say thanks a bunch for the gift!
  • Thank you for the beautiful blouse, I can’t wait to wear it this weekend.
  • Thank you for coming to my birthday party, it was more special getting to celebrate with you.
  • The new picture frame will look perfect in my college dorm room, thank you!
  • This is exactly what I’ve been wanting, thank you so much for getting it for me.
  • Thank you for the gift card, it will help me get everything I need for my upcoming move.
  • The coffee mug you sent is so me. Thank you for making my mornings brighter.
  • I’m so grateful for the housewarming gift you sent, our place is one step closer to feeling like home because of it.
  • I know you spent a lot of time picking out the perfect gift for me and I feel blessed to have such a thoughtful friend in my life.

To express your gratitude for a kind deed

Whether a friend, family member or stranger has gone out of their way for you, surprise them with a small gift to show that their kind deed didn’t go unnoticed! A candle or incense are both inexpensive options to add to your thank you note for a little something extra.

You can customize one of these for your situation:

  • I can’t even begin to explain how much your help meant to me.
  • Thank you for always stepping in to help when I need you most.
  • Thank you for taking the time to help me, it really meant a lot.
  • Thank you for sharing your home with me, I had such a great time catching up.
  • My stomach (and I) want to thank you for that delicious meal.
  • You made me feel so at home that I forgot I wasn’t! Thank you for having me.
  • Thank you for putting a roof over my head this weekend, it was so kind to invite me into your home.
  • Thank you for hosting my event, my day just wouldn’t have been the same without you!
  • Thank you for the raving letter of recommendation, I can’t wait to start my new job.

To tell a friend “thank you for being you”

They are your partner in crime and have your back no matter what. Let your bestie know how much they mean to you by putting together a gift basket that’s just for them. Customize it with their favorite drink, a gift card to that boutique they always talk about, or items like bubble bath, an eye mask and slippers for a relaxing night in. Play with silly puns or recount your favorite memory with them to show how much their friendship means to you.

Here are some other ways to let a friend know how great they are:

  • Have a drink on me.
  • You’re a peach! Thanks for your help.
  • Where would I be without a friend like you?
  • What you did for me was kind of a big deal. Thank you.
  • How did you become so wise? Thanks again for all of your advice.
  • You are my angel, thank you for your kindness and compassion.
  • You know all my secrets and weird quirks, yet you’re still my bestie. Thank you.

  • You are a ray of sunshine to me and everyone else around. Thank you for brightening my day!
  • Words can’t even express my thanks, but I hope this gift will help show you how grateful I am for a friend like you.
  • Thank you for helping me through that difficult time. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, I have two for you.

To say thank you to your significant other

No -- I Won't Thank My Employees For Doing Their Job

thank you for doing a good job

We know it’s important to give positive feedback in response to a job well done. Simple recognition of effort can be a fantastic reward that provides continued motivation for future tasks. But sometimes it seems to get tedious to keep saying “great job” over and over, especially if you work with a large team.

For truly exceptional work that exceeded expectations

Excellent work must always be recognized and differentiated as such. High performers are intrinsically motivated by doing excellent work and producing something that impresses others. When that credit is not given, over time they will redirect their effort and contributions towards work that does meet that need for high achievement.

  1. Brilliant job!
  2. Outstanding work!
  3. This is truly above and beyond.
  4. We are thrilled to have you on our team and this is exactly why we need you.
  5. This is superb! I had no idea a document could look this good.
  6. To be honest, when we started the project I wasn’t sure we could pull this off but you certainly did it and did it well.
  7. We are so fortunate to have an innovator like you on our team.
  8. This is so great I think others could benefit from learning about it. Can I share your work at our team meeting/with my peers/with my boss, etc.?
  9. You set a high bar with this one.
  10. This showcases you are a role model and leader in our organization.

For work completed fairly, accurately, and on time

It is true that this is an expectation that comes with the job—to get work done without error and within deadline. This work still deserves appreciation and recognition, albeit at a more moderate level. You don’t want to overstate the contribution, but you do want to acknowledge that the effort it took to complete the assignment is not being taken for granted.

  1. Thank you!
  2. Good work, as always.
  3. Thanks for getting this done.
  4. You are a lifesaver.
  5. Thank you for pulling everyone/everything together on such short notice.
  6. I appreciate you getting this to me so quickly so I have time to review it.
  7. Thanks for your help today.
  8. Thanks for your good work this week.
  9. Thanks for stepping up and getting this done for us.
  10. I don’t know what I would do without you.

For a job well done

Last but certainly not least—and in fact, most work will fall in this category—is work that delivers more than the minimum but is not quite out of this world. The goal here is to recognize that it is good work but you don’t want to muddle the feedback to sound like it could be one of the other two categories.

  1. Perfect!
  2. Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for.
  3. Wonderful, this is more than I expected.
  4. This is so great I don’t need to make any revisions to it at all.
  5. I appreciate your critical thinking around this project.
  6. Well done—and ahead of deadline too!
  7. You are such a team player.
  8. You are so creative—I always love getting your perspective on things.
  9. You consistently bring your all and I truly appreciate that.
  10. I am so proud/glad/lucky to have you part of my team.

However you choose to say it, don’t skip it. Positive feedback makes us feel recognized and appreciated, it identifies what we have done right (and thus gives us a clue to what we should do more of), and it makes negative feedback and constructive criticism easier to accept and integrate.

Play my 2 Vendettas whenever I want, I have them already just use them at the most optimal time.

Lets make some Lackeys too shall we? Look at all these cards discovered, stolen and drawn. What should I do? Got my immunity 3 attack too.

Oh its turn 8 - should I toy with my opponent some more?

Nah I will play Leroy Jenkins Shadowstep Leroy Jenkins play Leroy Jenkins and attack with my 3 weapon for 15 dmg.

Yeah, good game design. Maybe if there was some randomness to it or something that would require more interaction less solitaire.

Next Game Warrior. Warrior is getting out minions as much as he can. A Warrior? Well do what youre suppose to do, try and control the board. Still out numbered.

Warrior plays Zephyrs, discovers Bloodlust - well there ya go. Cheap Victories off of I win cards that aren’t random but always at the top of the decks.

Yeah, great game design.
