A farewell is a time to say good bye to anyone. Usually the letter of farewell is written to colleagues or co workers, if someone is leaving a work place, to friends .
When you leave a job – whether it's because you're retiring, returning to school, have accepted a new job, or are just moving on in general – it's a good idea to send a farewell letter to your co-workers.
Your farewell note is the perfect place for you to thank co-workers for the opportunity you’ve had to work together. It's also a place to share contact information.
While you may tell many colleagues that you're departing the company in a face-to-face conversation, sending a letter (either by email or traditional snail mail) ensures that everyone knows the news.
You should use your judgment to decide who should receive a farewell letter. If you have a small office, you might send it to everyone in the company. However, for larger companies, consider just sending the letter to your immediate group or team, or particular people whom you have worked closely with during your stint at that company.
It's a good idea to send your farewell letter as close as possible to your last day of work. Preferably, your coworkers will receive the letter on your last day (or second-to-last day), when you are finished with your duties. That way, you have time to say goodbye to people in person.
You can send a goodbye letter or email. An email is an easy way to efficiently tell everyone about your leaving. However, if you send an actual letter, make sure people will receive it before you leave, so they have time to say goodbye in person if they want to.
If you choose to write your farewell letter on paper, you might consider placing each letter in your coworkers' work mailboxes (rather than mailing each letter), to save time (and money on stamps).
Whatever the reason for your departure, here is the most important information to include in your note:
You can use a template as a starting point for your own letter. However, you should always personalize and customize your letter, so it reflects your work experience and your relationship with your coworkers. For example, if you don’t want to include a phone number in your own farewell letter, you don’t need to do so.
Subject: Your Name - Moving On
Use the first paragraph of your farewell letter to let your coworkers know that you are leaving the company. It's fine to tell them where you are going and what you will be doing. However, don't mention anything negative about your present employer or why you are moving on. You should also mention the specific day you will be leaving, so your coworkers have time to say goodbye if they wish to.
In the second paragraph, thank your coworkers for all the support they have provided you. Mention that you have enjoyed working with them and you'll miss them, even though it’s time for you to move on. Depending on the number of coworkers you have, you might want to individualize this paragraph for each person, specifying something in particular that you appreciate about each coworker.
The third paragraph should let your contacts know where they can reach you. Include your personal email address, phone number, and LinkedIn URL.
In the last paragraph, reiterate your thanks.

Or maybe you really do love your job, but you can’t pass up a new opportunity. Either way, craft a diplomatic and professional letter, emphasizing the positive experiences you’ve gained from the job and tactfully informing your employer or clients that you are moving on.
These examples will help you inform your employer of your intended retirement. This will likely be a more formal letter that includes several key details. In fact, your boss or HR department might want to guide you in providing the information in writing they need to start winding down your position and preparing for any retirement benefits to kick in.

After you quit your job, your goodbye email to your coworkers has the power to set the tone for the whole of your tenure, your departure, and your farewell happy hour drinks at 5.

The subject line of your goodbye email should convey the ominous nature of your message without being too alarming, keeping in mind your boss has probably already told everyone anyway.
Stay away from phrases like, “This is it,” “My unfortunate departure,” or “Checking out for good,” and instead go with something like, “I bid you adieu,” “A Fond Farewell,” or “Here’s to all the sexual harassment lawsuits I escaped.”
This will make your coworkers excited to read your email (later, when they have some time).
Begin by mentioning what a tough decision this was, and make sure to relate how much you enjoyed working on such an awesome team. Say how thankful you are for everything they’ve taught you, but also be grateful for everything you were able to teach them.
There’s at least one person on every team that everyone likes to make fun of. By making fun of this person, you’ll be remembered as one of the cool kids. Say something like “I’ll miss all of you, well not all of you, I’m not naming names (Greg).”
It’s very important to subtly throw in how long you were a member of the team, so that people appreciate the time you put in. People have a tendency to not remember this, so make sure to remind them. Your coworkers will say, “Oh wow, she was here that long?”
Mention all the teams and projects you contributed to, in a way that makes it seem like you’re not bragging even though you’re totally bragging. Think of this as a list of your notable contributions subtly disguised as nostalgic reminiscing.
When you mention where you’re headed next, it’s important to describe it in a vague way that also makes it sound incredible.
Say something like:
This will have everyone’s tongue wagging about where you’re going, and will give you something to talk about during those awkward goodbye drinks conversations.

Since goodbyes are hard for everyone, talk about how this isn’t really goodbye. Say you’re only an email away. Say you hope your paths will cross again.
End with some parting, sage advice that shows what a deep person you are. This can be a quote from Seth Godin or Steve Jobs, or a general statement about always learning, giving it your all, continuing to change the world and striving for greatness. Be excited for them, and be excited for yourself, and overall leave on a positive note that re-iterates how sad, but still excited, everyone should be.
