16) A lot of people will tell you that with time, wounds will heal. But let me tell you the fact. The void in your life created by the passing away of your father will never be filled. But the great thing that’ll come out of it is that you’ll truly realize how much he loved you.

17) Life is such an irony. Death reminds us who we love the most. Your father may be no more but his death is a beautiful reminder how much we loved him and continue to do so.

33) Your father’s death marks the end of an era… a time symbolized by tough love, compassion, generosity and the mark of a man unlike any other. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

34) No words will ever be able to justify how deeply saddened I am… just like nothing can ever justify how heartbroken you must be feeling right now. My most sincere condolences.

35) No condolence message can ever soothe the sorrow in your life right now. But all I can pray for is that my prayers give you the strength to cope up.

36) Among many other things, your father was a man who always kept his word. A true gentleman. He will be dearly missed by one and all. Our heartfelt condolences.

37) I’d be lying if I said that I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your father. The fact is, I’m heartbroken in a way that I never imagined. Such a gem of a man he was… and his memories forever remain.

38) One of the loudest reminders of your father’s death will be the moments both of your spent together without saying a word. Find the strength to move on from those precious memories.

39) Every time you break down at the thought of missing your dad, remember that he’d be proud to see you pick yourself up and move on. Yes, that’s easier said than done but I pray that you find the strength.

40) Writing a condolence message has never been this difficult. My fingers refuse to move and my mind refuses to step out of sorrow that has engulfed us all. You’re not the only one missing your dad, we miss him too.

In memory of my dad, I love and miss him so dearly. On Monday, January 28, 2019, it will be 1 year - 12 months - 365 days - 8760 hours - 525600 minutes - 3153600 seconds my dad slept peacefully. My heart hurts and my tears are running down my cheeks. We stood for each other. Every day, every night, every time I will always miss you. I miss your voice, I miss your smile, I miss your smell, I miss your hugs, I miss your jokes, I miss how much you made me feel I was a worthy son. It hurts, but when I think of the memories together and that you are with Jesus Christ whom you served, I feel incredibly blessed. I still don't believe you are gone. Death changes everything! Time changes nothing. I still truly miss your voice, the wisdom in your advice even two days to your departure, the stories of your life. Dad, I miss you as much today as I did the day you died. Words of Condolence Letter for a Father

message for the father who passed away

Dear George,

I am truly saddened to hear of your recent loss and would like to express my sincere condolences to you and your family on the recent passing of your father. Elaine and the children also send their thoughts and hopes to you and your family at this most difficult of times.

Even though I did not know you father personally, through meeting you and your family, I can see that you were raised in a loving and warm family. Your personal demeanor and the values you have I know came from the family in which you were raised. I can only imagine how much of an impact your father has had on how compassionate and caring a person you are. From meeting you and your family and hearing the stories about your father I can only imagine how great a man he was and I wish I had the pleasure of knowing him in life. It is obvious that you were very fortunate to have such a fine man as your father and role model as you grew into the person you are today.

Please accept our heartfelt condolences at this most difficult time and I ask that you please pass these sentiments on to your family and your father's friends. I wish I had the opportunity to have known your father as I can see how his personality and strength must have passed into you and in doing so he lives on in you and those who loved him.

With Our Sincere Sympathy,

James and Elaine Spencer

Before You Begin-Rules of Etiquette to Consider

  • Try to keep your letter short but thoughtful.
  • Be sure to mention one of your favorite memories of the deceased if you have one.
  • Respect religious beliefs. Always remember that everyone deserves sympathy, regardless of their beliefs.
  • Sign with your complete name (first and surname). This is good etiquette and will prevent confusion regarding relatives or friends with the same first name as you.
  • Do not make offers of financial help.
  • Don’t mention money that the deceased may have owed to you or anyone else. Financial matters can be dealt with after the grieving period has passed.
  • Do offer practical help such as offering to provide meals or help out with household chores.

Begin With an Appropriate Greeting

Letters of sympathy and condolences are very personal, so the language of your greeting should reflect that. When addressing your intended recipient, your greeting should always include the name of the person you are writing your letter to. Dear ________,
My Dear Friend _________,
Dearest __________,

May the memories of his joyful spirit strengthen and surround you in this difficult time.
  • I first got to know ______ when we were in college together. He was always the guy in the dorm that was the most focused on his studies, and none of us were surprised at the success he was able to achieve. • ______ has always been a great neighbor and friend. Our family has always enjoyed getting to know him over the years. Condolence Messages for a Father

You can send a text, email, or social media condolence message instead of the more traditional letter. Your message can still include all of the same kinds of sentiments as what would be found in a traditional letter. However, the format of a text or social media message often restricts you to a certain length of message. As such, it is proper etiquette to make your message shorter when sending a condolence message for a father via text or social media. The are sample ideas that you can use for your message:

Words can’t express how sorry I am for your loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts.

I am so sorry for your loss. You and your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers.

I just heard the sad news about ______. Please accept my warmest sympathies; you are in my prayers.

I’m sorry for your loss. May your warmest memories of your father surround you in this difficult time.

We are so sorry to hear of the passing of dear ______. You have our condolences.

You can send one of these short messages immediately to provide comfort and sympathy. Later you can then send a more traditional words of condolence letter for a father as you feel it is appropriate.

Condolence Cards for a Father

It is often customary to send flowers or another type of condolence gift to the family of the deceased. You will want to include a condolence card for a father along with your flowers or gift, but you may find yourself at a loss for what to write in the card. A simple phrase offering condolences is often best. You can use any of the following words of sympathy:

  • May these flowers serve as a token of my sympathy for you.
  • May these flowers express what words never will.
  • May this (type of gift) be a reminder of my thoughts and prayers for you.
  • Please know that you are in our prayers.
  • May these flowers remind you just how much we care.
  • Please know that we are always here for you. You don’t have to face this alone.
  • With prayers and love for your entire family.
  • From our family, with condolences.
